So cute! I loved the curious george movie that came out a couple of years ago;)
I'm reading Uglies by Scott Westerfield right now. It's about a society that has come to a place where when you turn 16 you must have plastic surgery to perfect yourself. It's the only way people can live together harmoniously, apparently Everyone in pretty town looks gorgeous and has fun every minute of their lives. They live in a "high-tech paradise." Of course, there are people who want to stay "ugly" and right now Shay has run away to The Smoke--just before her 16th birthday and the required operation. Tally must find her or she won't get to have her operation and join her best friend in Pretty Town.
It's a YA novel. I like to read them so I can make recommendations to my students.
The first line is, "The early summer sky was the color of cat vomit." I loved that probably b/c I have a cat. It did take me a couple of chapter to really get into it though. But now I am really enjoying it.

Review: That monkey is too damned cute and way too curious for his own good. Not sure I liked the part about him getting into the ether at the hospital as I think it may be promoting drug use among young people, lol!!!!

Bella's Book Club
Hellooooo0! Anyone reading this blog?
Just wanted to tell you about something I'm doing here at the library. I've started a book club for teens that only discusses books LIKE Twilight. They are all Bella fans, so we've decided to call it Bella's Book Club. I've also created a blog for the group, that went live yesterday. If you'd like to check it out, it's at: http://bellabookclub.blogspot.com/
You can make comments on books we are reading, if you'd like. Currently, the group is reading Vampire Kisses by Schreiber, Ellen. It's sort of sophomoric, really. The characters are flat, and it's not at all as good as some of the other vampire fiction I've read, but the kids really dig it.
In the story of Vampire Kisses, Alexander, the romantic vampire lead, can always be found painting in his attic room, listening to "goth music". The author specifically mentions The Cure and The Smiths, which I found hilarious. So, he's a goth 80's vampire, then??? Anyhoo, as you can imagine, the teens don't know The Cure and The Smiths, so I put the music up there for them to listen to. I'm doing my duty introducing them to our music, wouldn't you say?
In January, we will have a special Twilight discussion, and the kids will make Twilight buttons and t-shirts. I'll need you guys to comment especially on the blog then!

Welcome to the Book Club!
Since we have had such big discussions about Twilight and other books, I thought that I'd make a little off-shoot from our Herrick Hall blog where we can talk about books. I kind of felt bad posting pics and the trailer from Twilight for those MZ's who don't care about books, but want to talk about our friends, reconnect, or reminisce. So, here's an outlet!

When Rho Chi's are really demons...
I was desperate for something to read to get me out of the Breaking Dawn spiral I was in. I just kept reading Breaking Dawn over and over, thinking I would get a different ending, or maybe some insight into the story that I hadn't seen before. At the very least, I just needed the comfort of having Bella and Edward and company waiting for me at bedtime to read. 
On Friday, I received a box of new books from Random House. They send them frequently, to promote the new books they have--usually for children and teens. I picked up the pink book and took it home.
The pink book was Hell Week by Clement-Moore. It was cute, fun, and had a nice twist to it. Most of all, it made me think about all of you! Maggie Quinn, the heroine, is starting college at a small liberal-arts school, and is going through Rush. What she finds out is a fun, supernatural romp in the world of greek sororities. Definitely for those who like Buffy, the Vampire Slayer(which, by the way, I've never seen).
Sure, it wasn't magical or spellbinding like Twilight or Harry Potter was for me, and it definitely isn't fine lit, but I liked it. It was funny, and I actually laughed out loud at some moments. It might be that it was just too easy for me to imagine all these things happening in Herrick Hall, but the similarities to the Chi-O house was interesting. One thing that totally had me chuckling was the Initiation closet, where all the initiation things were kept---and the author makes a joke about how this secret closet also holds all the Christmas decorations, too.
From pledge books to white tapers, you'll find it here. If you want a fluffy light read with a supernatural flavor, you'll enjoy this girl vs. evil book.

I went to the midnight release party, which was weird. My library friends all wore funny twilight-inspired t-shirts, but there were people there dressed up in prom dresses and too much white makeup! My t-shirt is to the right. Why is it funny? Read on...
If you didn't know, Twilight is being made into a movie, to be released on December 12, 2008. The guy
who played Cedric Diggory (killed by Voldemort) in the Harry Potter films has won the most coveted role of Edward in Twilight. His name is Robert Pattinson, and this role could really boost his career. He is so gorgeous that I think he really will make a good Edward! He's British, of course, but does a pretty good American accent. Here's a picture of Edward, and then a picture of the Cullen family, although I feel like they all sort of look weird there.

And New Moon, did you all feel that heartbreak with Bella? I swear it depressed me for a week. I can't wait to see the movie! Would you like to see the trailer for it? (I know that you do!)
